Bitcoin is a sleeping bull. Here's why:

  1. Accumulation by institutions: Overlay the NASDAQ chart over bitcoin and you see incredible increase in correlation since November 2019. What has happened here? Simple, the retail investors/miners who have been selling for the last 3 years have been selling to institutions, rather than fellow retail investors. Bitcoin did not die, it was just entered a bear market where money traded hands from retail and into institution's hands.
  2. Buy the rumor sell the news: digital dollar. For those of you who do not know, there has been strong bipartisan interest in the United States creating their own digital currency, using blockchain technology. There was legislation hidden for the creation of this digital dollar inside one of the early stimulus bills that almost passed.
  3. Technical analysis: If it bitcoin breaks 10.5k, expect an explosive price pump to 14k, and I honestly don't think 14k will be very strong resistance, I honestly would expect the most serious level of resistance will be around 19-20k. If bitcoin fails to break 10.5k, expect a shakedown to the 20 week moving average which currently is around 8.2k.
  4. Gold fundamentals are bitcoin fundamentals, both are stronger than ever: The idea of having a currency that is finite, and divorced from any centralized bank or government is super attractive in the post covid world we live in today. Countries have getting a little too comfortable pressing the print button to print their way to riches. On the very long time frames, birth birthrates are freefalling on the global level, especially among the wealthiest countries whose currencies' supply are inflating exponentially to record highs. The supply of unbacked fiat will at some point surpass the demand and we will see the age of centralized banks come to an end.
  5. Bitcoin has already overtaken silver: Bitcoin has a market cap about 4 times larger than silver, and gold has a market cap about 75 times larger than bitcoin. Bitcoin has plenty of room to grow in this niche, and the digitization of it's nature could allow for it to expand in many areas where gold can not.
  6. The inflation rate gets cut in half every four years: it's current yearly inflation rate is 1.80%. In four years, the inflation rate will be approximately 0.9%. In 8 years, the inflation rate will be at ~0.45%, etc... Even if the demand stays the same for gold and bitcoin, bitcoin will overtake gold's market cap in a few decades just by looking at the stock to flow ratio of both commodities.

Buying a home for my dad and having him use gift exclusion for "rent".

Hi All, Looking forward to your answers/thoughts on my idea here, hopefully will get some good conversation going.
Background on me…
25 Years Old (May 2018 graduate)
From Dec-18 thru March-20 I work/worked as an Engineer in the Oil and Gas industry overseas (currently on furlough due to travel into my work country being completely closed with a potential return date of 15-Sep)
Net worth $107k (Cash 14k / Bitcoin 41k / Crypto 7k / 401k 30k / Roth IRA 32k / Other Stocks 7k / Silver 4k / Student loans -28k)
2019 income $112k (net ~$100k) should do ~$100k gross this year as well (not sure on net as being in the States on unemployment likely will affect my ability to deduct foreign income)
Idea…
My dad (56 w/ +$3mil net worth) has been renting the same house for 11 years since my parent’s divorce. His landlord owns an identical house next door that just had the tenant move out and he told my dad he is looking to sell it. My dad loves the house he is in (location is perfect right on a bike trail ~25 minutes outside a top 30 population city) and his biggest worry is the landlord also selling his house and having to find a new place. Being a believer in homeownership I’ve previously told my dad I would buy him a house and rent it back to him and with interests rates as low as they are it seems as good a time as ever to start building a rental portfolio.
Obviously my biggest concern is mixing family and money however we have always been a very open family when it comes to talking about money and having been at home for 3 months during COVID I don’t see my relationship with my dad having any issues.
Questions… 1) Can I have my dad give me 15k per year as a gift (tax exclusion) and let him live there rent free? This would be a huge help in terms of cash flow as our main idea/goal with this is to stop transferring his worth to someone else and instead keep it in the family and would also allow us to keep his “rental payment” below market value (currently pays $1150 with comps going for $1400-1500 / month).
2) Any other tax issues that I am not thinking of?
3) Insurance wise I would obviously get dwelling, property, liability, and an umbrella policy to cover my needs. Anything I am missing here?
Obviously will run all of this by a financial advisor if we plan on going forward with it but I felt like this would be a great way to get a start on future financial planning for my family going forward.

I did it.

12 years of disciplined boring investing almost all in SPY and later VOO and I am a millionaire in my late thirties.
900k from index funds and 200k from real estate.
Started with zero. No inheritance. Separate money from my wife (not counting her assets or contributions). Made mid five to low six figures income the whole time. One kid... now two.
edit 1
I actually did not thing anyone would respond to this but a lot of people did. Some asked for proof. Here it is. Omitting real estate holdings. https://imgur.com/a/zI9UWJa
Also including credit report - no debt outside a used car loan because I will not pay cash when I get money at 3.49%.
Edit 2
People asked for more details.
At a high level I have been investing / studying markets since I was very young. I tried everything (internet stocks, FOREX, Options, Futures, small caps etc) coupled with fundamental and technical analysis. Did OK, even won second place in a trading contest but never got what I wanted.
Like many people I made bad decisions and had divorce, job loss, etc. Even had to close out an IRA in my twenties.
Ended up turning to a disciplined index fund strategy about 12 years ago.
Strategy was to max out 401k and live below my means (old car, no cable tv, make my own food, etc). At the end of each month swept all my pennies into an after tax fund since my 401k was maxed. That is it. Make your own coffee and buy VOO or SPY ideally in a tax advantaged account.
I road this through the 2008/2009 crash - kept my investments and bought more.
I also have small (like 5% of my money) in Bitcoin, Tesla and Pot stocks. This is purely for fun.
A couple people mentioned this was just luck. I think it is important to understand the market will move up, retrace, consolidate and then move higher. The timing of this is somewhat luck. The strategy part is live below your means, buy and accumulate positions for years so when a bull market hits you are in. I guess you can call each runup "luck" except people keep living in debt no matter what their income. I would much prefer people take away an investment strategy that does work if you are a disciplined from someone not born rich and who tried a lot of different strategies.
The takeaway really is with education and discipline you can reach a level of financial independence even after many screwups. I can publish this simple system and honestly few will follow it... There are no ads, systems to buy or affiliate links. I make zero dollars sharing this. I make my own coffee and watch netflix. I invest the rest in index funds. Take a trip or buy something if it really is important to me. That is it.
Edit 3
People asked what is next. Teach my six year old and newborn savings and investing. Opening a ROTH* for the 6 year old and custodial brokerage account for the new addition. They will have millions as a safety net at retirement. They will now know about this money and will need to find their own path in life.
Staying in the market, if it crashes I will buy more.
Stating in until I reach 5-10 million. Don't need the money for a long time...

48 next week, after a divorce starting from the bottom again. Is FIRE possible?

As the title says, my divorce came through about 2 weeks ago and I am starting from the bottom rung again. I haven't got any property, and my assets are limited. What prompted me to grab this with both hands is that around that time my eldest daughter gave birth to my first grandchild so it's helped me to focus on the future.
I currently live with my parents, as during the week I work away from home and have a rented property near my work. It's nearly 2 hours away from home so commuting isn't an option (plus the client pays an accommodation allowance so not all bad). I do plan to buy a house within the next 5 or so years so that's my short term goal but whilst I don't need to I'm building up my assets.
I've been earning average income for the past few years (about £33k). During my marriage I was very limited to what I could do money wise. The wife would rarely contribute to household expenses, and would spend rather than save. I tried to get better paying jobs, but security was preferred over higher income. What little money I had left over I tried to save, but more often than not had to liquidate any investments in order to pay for essentials - like a car repair or replacement washing machine etc. We rented, as neither of us were in a good enough place financially to get a mortgage.
Now, as I'm not having to answer to her and being free to do what I want (within reason, we have a 11 year old daughter) I'm in a job earning double what I got in my previous position. Although I'm a contractor, I'm needed for the length of the project which is at least the next 2 years so I'm taking advantage of the boost in income. And thankfully during the lockdown they still paid me, as it would cost too much to get a replacement in if I did leave. For the last year my priority was paying off debts, I still have some (about 10k) but much more manageable than they were this time last year. I could pay everything off in the next 6 months, but I think it's time I started preparing for the future. The way I see it, if I lost my job in a month I'd have no debts but limited or no resources to feed myself. But if I start following more of the FIRE philosophies I'll at least have covered expenses for a few months if the worst happened. I've been a follower of MMM for a few years, haven't always agreed with what he says on some subjects (Cryptocurrency for instance) but I feel I'm ready to start putting FIRE into practice.
The two things I'm looking to concentrate on right now are emergency expenses and investing. What I have in place right now is a Moneybox S&S ISA which I intend to use for emergency expenses. For those not familiar with Moneybox it rounds up the pennies for expenses in the bank account to whole pounds. As well as this I do a weekly top up and a payday top up. Approximately £150-200 per month, current value around £600. I also tried to invest in the FTSE 100 with the spare change I had, and used a Halifax Sharebuilder. I put in around £30 per month and each month picked a new share from the FTSE 100. I'm about £960 in and probably about a third of the way through the FTSE100. Thinking about it I should have invested in a tracker fund, but hey, it's been in place for a few years and it's made me put money aside so not all bad. Right now most of it is red, but I put that down to the current economic climate and I'm in it for the long haul so at the moment it doesn't matter.
I've dabbled in Cryptocurrency. I work in IT and I've always been very much of a geek, so it comes with the territory. Mostly proof of stake coins, but early in the process more 'traditional' proof of work coins such as Bitcoin and Litecoin. Somewhere I do have a few hundred Bitcoin but can I find the seed phrase I wrote down? If only I'd emailed it to myself! I'm a lot more organised these days, and probably hold £2500 in a mix of different coins. I monitor the price weekly and react if I see a trend but mostly leave this untouched.
I also have some premium bonds. Probably around £500. I only started collecting them last year, so far no winnings but again I'm in it for the long haul so I'm looking at the average returns. If it makes me my million then so be it, if it doesn't win anything at all then I'll revisit it but I see it as something I can quickly liquidate if I need the money.
If I had to liquidate everything tomorrow, I could probably support myself for 3 months. I want this to be at least 6 months, the end goal to cover potentially 30 or more years of retirement.
My budget does have some things I can't avoid, such as paying rent twice (a token amount at home but market rates for work, probably around 1000 in total). The accommodation allowance mentioned above is sufficient to cover the away from home element and more. There's feeding myself, a couple of streaming services and Xbox Live (essential for my mental health when in a 1 bed flat during the work week), car expenses (I have a Skoda Octavia and regularly exceed 50mpg, 70+ on A roads) and the finance and associated fuel and insurance costs for that, and some ad-hoc expenses as they arise such as clothing. Overall I could live on 60% of my salary, the more debt I pay off the better that gets. What's helped here is my obsession with Excel - I monitor everything. I go through bank transactions and enter every penny into a budget planner, so I know where I am. And those budget figures I use in YNAB to keep a day to day eye on how I'm doing, so far it's been quite accurate at predicting what's coming out and when.
I know it's going to be difficult, starting so late. But has anybody else been as late to the party as me, and if so how was it for you? Any tips? I'm happy to elaborate on any of the above if I need to.

Default English word list

Alright so, I took the default database from there https://skribbliohints.github.io/ and with the help of html, I extracted the words to a list separated by commas. It's useful when you want to translate those words into your native language.
Word of advice, when using google translate, do not put all words at once there, it can rapidly worsen the translation.
(And there is a last thing. Their algorithm of picking only custom words is not working really good, at least for me. Meaning that I often get duplicates, despite having a list this big and without duplicates. I'm still trying to find some solution to this, so if somebody is experiencing this as well, share the knowledge please, I will do the same.)
SOLUTION: Thanks for the reply from PepegaWR who identified the cause. I also tested it and there seems to be a custom words limit of 5000 characters. The easiest way in my opinion is to shuffle the words before each session to minimize the impact. Also thanks to the flynger who had the same idea before me :)
Finally, here it is, enjoy the scribbling ^^ :

Morning Sheet for June 11th

For Trading JUNE 11th
FED DOES NOTHING
NASDAQ at Another New High!
U.S. DOLLAR CONTINUES TO WEAKEN
Today’s market was just another day dominated by FAANG stocks with new all-time highs from AAPL, MSFT, AMZN, TSLA, and NVDA. But the DJIA was all over the place, spending the first hour headed down to the low of the day -334 before working higher and then taking off to the upside after the FED announcement making the high +83 by 2:30 and then heading back and forth and settling -282.31 (1.04, NASDAQ +66.59 (.67%), S&P 500 -17.04 (.53%), the Russell -39.66 (2.63 and the DJ Transports -246 (2.51%). Internals were not as weak as the market looked with NYSE A/D 2.5:1 and NASDAQ 1.8:1. Volume was about average and the DJIA was 23 down and 7 up with AAPL adding 61 and MSFT 48 DPs while BA was the big loser -91 with AXP, JPM, GS, and TRV each lower by 31DP’s. The strength came from Information tech (FAANG) but the weakness came from energy, financials, industrials and real estate. Not a good looking day.
Our “open forum” on Discord, which allows me to interact with subscribers and others to allow direct questions and chart opinions on just about any stock, continues to grow with more participants every day. It is informative and allows me to share insights as the market is open and moving. The link is: https://discord.gg/ATvC7YZ and I will be there and active from before the open and all day. It’s a great place to share ideas and gain some insights, and we’ve grown to almost 1900 members. I also did this video titled “How to survive being an options trader and not blow up your account,” over the long weekend. I think it’s very informative as a guide to stock selection and option choices. The link is https://youtu.be/Y7H9RpWfLlo Enjoy!!
Tonight’s closing comment video https://youtu.be/XX4bgWZNtH8
SECTORS: The big news was no news from the FED, as expected. Rates fell slightly but the Financials fell hard. The forecasts for 2020 GDP (-6.5%) and 2021 (+5%) weren’t much of a surprise. The real news was Taubman (TCO) getting kicked to the curb by Simon Properties (SPG) and cancelling their marriage. The reaction was swift, sending TCO down to $26.70, but it finished $36.17 (9.08%) while SPG got less of a hit moving to $&* before it managed a close of $83.01 -3.46 (4%). This will not be a civil divorce. JP Morgan downgraded JBLU and UAL, sending JBLU down to $12.03 before coming back to $12.63 -1.58 (11.12%) and UAL to $38.30 before it too recovered a bit to $39.72 -4.92 (11.02%). The cruise lines were weaker with RCL to $63.59 -6.32 (9%), CCL $20.59 (-2.45 (11%), and the biggest loser NCLH $20.65 -3.48 (14%).
FOOD SUPPLY CHAIN was MIXED with BGS -.10, FLO -.12, CAG -.39, MDLZ +.16, KHC -.80, CALM -2.65, JJSF -2.20, SAFM +.06, LANC +.16, GO +1.20, HRL +.01, SJM +.07, PPC -.49 and PBJ 31.48 -.51 (1.59%).
BIOPHARMA was MIXED with BIIB +.62, ABBV +.98, REGN -2.59, ISRG +11.22, GILD -.58, MYL -1.25, TEVA -.68, VRTX +4.15, BHC -1.16, INCY +.05, ICPT -.68, LABU +.22 and IBB $133.38 +.47 (.35%).
CANNABIS: was LOWER with TLRY -.62, CGC -.32, CRON +.01, GWPH -3.74, ACB -.70, PYX -.65, NBEV -.08, CURLF +.06, KERN +.52 and MJ $14.85 -.14 (.93%).
DEFENSE was LOWER with LMT -6.96, GD -6.68, TXT -4.17, NOC -7.53, BWXT -.62, TDY -4.26, RTX -3.19, and ITA $181.08 -6.09 (3.25%).
RETAIL was LOWER with M -1.07, JWN -2.19, KSS -3.47, DDS -3.74, WMT -.44, TGT -1.47, TJX +1.78, RL -6.48, UAA -.73, LULU +4.45, TPR -1.10, CPRI -2.02, and XRT $43.20 -1.03 (2.33%).
FAANG and Big Cap: were HIGHER with GOOGL +8.27, AMZN +30.13, AAPL +7.01, FB -2.72, NFLX -1.95, NVDA +11.14, TSLA +68.83, BABA +1.78, BIDU +.21, CMG -15.47, CAT -4.01, BA -20.44, DIS -2.66 and XLK $103.63 +1.23 (1.20%).
FINANCIALS were LOWER with GS -7.24, JPM -6.64, BAC -2.13, MS -2.77, C -4.70, PNC -8.69, AIG -2.90, TRV -6.27, AXP -5.96, V -.08 and XLF $24.93 -1.24 (4.74%).
OIL, $39.60 +.66. Oil has managed to trade $40.44 yesterday and fell back to the 5-day MA and closed there. We then traded as low as 37.07 today before reversing late in the day and closing higher. Today’s close near the high didn’t help the stocks. They were lower and XLE was $42.29 -2.81 (6.23%).
METALS, GOLD: $1,720.70. After trading down to $1671 last week we had a bounce higher again today after testing the 1697 level. The action in the US$ is projecting higher prices for the metals, but it does not necessarily trade with the dollar on a day by day basis. Support is around Friday’s lows. We bought back the 3rd and final lot of NEM @ $58.86.
BITCOIN: closed $9,935 +130. After breaking down from just over 10,000 and trading as low as 8630 last Tuesday we have been clawing our way back toward 10,000. Last week we traded over $10500 but fell all the way back to the lows, but we’ve moved back toward $10,000. We added 350 shares of GBTC last Wednesday @ $10.02 to our position of 400 @ $8.06, bringing our average price to $8.97. GBTC closed $12.30 + .77 today.
Tomorrow is another day.

17 planning financially for near future

Hello

I'm currently a 17 year old high school student planning financially for the near future.

Ok so here's my plan and current situation: (Polish Złoty conversion to USD from the day of writing of this post [23 June 2020 7:49 AM, 1 usd = 3.95 pln)

Background:

As of writing of this post I have 3500 PLN ( 886.83 USD) and by the time I turn 18 I'll have around 7500 PLN ( 1,900.65 usd) just from the gov's money (500+ program, I made a deal with mom that I get 50% of that) and money I'll get for christmas and my 18th birthday (basing that off off what I got last year (700 pln for christmas).

Summer plans + rest of the 2020:

I'll try to get a job during summer and earn about 2500 PLN ( 634.08 usd) so that I end up with around 10000 PLN ( 2,536.30 usd). The summer job will likely be hard to get but even with 10 pln/h ( 2.54 usd/h) which is pretty much the lowest wage, I'll only need to work around 250 hours to get the 2500 PLN I'm aiming for so I'll still have some free time in the summer and I'll also pay 0% tax since you don't pay tax in Poland up to 8000 PLN ( 2,029.36 usd)

I also want to build up a portfolio (about 10 works) throughout summer since I'm trying to become a graphic designer.

Plans after turning 18:

After I get all the paperwork done (Mainly getting an ID) which should happen by the end of February 2021 since My 18th birthday is 30th January, I'm planning on setting up a Paypal account, searching for the right banking offer and making an account on a freelance website.

I'd like to work weekends about 4 hours per day so 8 hours per weekend doing graphic design so that I get some commissioned work into my portfolio as well as see how much I earn. If it goes well enough I'll likely have to register a single man company / self employed.

Also the 10000 PLN I would have by then would come into play. I'd like to split it by percent and start investing. Right now I'm thinking of.

-Savings account

-Bitcoin trading (I have some experience and generally know the way market moves, I could make profit pretty much every time with my technique except that'd be just like 3-4 trades in a year and the income would be pretty low)

-Investing in something with high return (that isn't basically gambling) I'm thinking of investing in loans since from what I read 10% yearly is the low yet I'd need to research more as it seems to be heavily regulated

-Possibly Crypto staking, lending, dividends (I mostly mean NEXO, am already using it but I barely have 20 usd in assets there)

-I'm also keeping an eye on real estate since I'm seeing a lot of new projects in my city marketed as a way to invest

Lifestyle and expenses:

Just a debit card for 3.90 PLN a month (0.99 usd) and no cost if I make 2 purchases (can be lower than the fee )

Other than that I don't spend money on anything except maybe water and sodas during summer. I'll be able to live with mom as long as I'm learning at school and even later but then I'd have to pay a part of the bills.

My mom and dad will soon be divorcing, he'll likely take some stuff from home but it won't really impact me, however he'll likely have to pay alimony to mom. After they divorce I'm planning to help with lowering the costs by changing lightbulbs to LED, putting a shower curtain so that I can take showers instead of baths and some other minor things that'd help with lowering the bills.

Other random info:

I'm not planning on doing a driver's license since I can rely mostly on public transit, my bike and simply going on foot. (When I'm still attending high school, mom will probably pay for my transit ticket)

I have goals to get to a million dollars by 24 years of age, that's why I'm searching for best returns in short time (I want this million so that I can buy a house in L.A lol)

I'm not planning on going to college/university because I don't want to spend another 3-5 years in the schooling system and I feel like it would be a waste of time in my case, however, if I fail with my financial ventures I may go there.

Skills:

Languages in CEFR levels: English - C1, will be passing the C2 exam in about a year as of making this post, French ~A2, planning on improving over the summer, probably will get to B1 or B2, Polish C2 (Native language)

Graphic Design skills, quite fluent in Paint.NET, learning Adobe Illustrator

Video Editing skills (somewhat basic but I feel comfortable / at ease using the program and can learn fast), program is Sony Vegas

Books read:

How to Win Friends and Influence People - Dale Carnegie (around 70%)

P.S Wow this ended up longer than I expected and also wanted to say I'll likely edit since I could've forgotten something
PPS- I'm posting this after 2 days since I originally wrote this cuz couldn't post because of wrong title and then reddit was freaking out when I was trying to post with correct title

I’m going no contact before Christmas

Trigger: drug abuse and sexual assault
This is a throwaway acct but I regularly participate on my regular account. I am using a throwaway for reasons that will become obvious below. I’m making this post because of an event that transpired last night.
I have a relative who is high up in the military ranks and has spend almost my whole life in combat or away from the states. This year, however- actually, the day after my wedding, these relatives moved back to the states a few hours from me. Up until the 2016 election, I would consider these family members that I get along with and enjoy being around. Then they voted for Trump and I cut off contact. For reference, I am bisexual. I have a 15 month old daughter and my stepson is an autistic non-verbal child who is biracial. Everything about Trump stands against my children. His policies have placed my stepsons life in danger. I am very blunt about my decision to have no contact with family members who support Trump. When I heard the news that said family members were moving back to the states, I was asked by my mom if they were being invited to my wedding. I asked her if they still supported Trump MANY TIMES to which she responded with things like “I wouldn’t believe so after what he’s done lately” and “not that I’m aware of”. So I invited them. But they didn’t come due to their closing date for their new home.
This is where another instance of my mom being a narcissist comes in. A month before my wedding, she agreed to leave my reception early with my children so my hubby and I could celebrate with no kids at our house that night. Just days before the wedding, she informs me that she’ll be traveling to help family members move back to the states so she can no longer take my kids that night. She gives me just days to figure something else out. Because of that, both kids left early with different people. I did not get a dance with my stepson on my wedding day or a family dance with all four of us. If she had agreed to take them, that wouldn’t have happened.
And then, she didn’t even go. She stayed home the next day and didn’t go help them move. She asked me if I would want to take a weekend trip there and I agreed. When the time came, though, a scheduling conflict arose and we didn’t end up going. She had also mentioned taking my kids for a weekend at some point to which I happily agreed! They love to explore new places and these family members had yet to meet them so I figured it would be a fun excursion!
Last night, I log onto Facebook for the first time in weeks because fuck Marc Zuckerburg, and I see a pro-Trump post from one of the family members that just moved back. I was fuming. My mom had been lying to me knowing damn well I had cut off contact with any other Trump supporters. And this wasn’t just a pro-Trump post. The post quite literally said “can’t wait to vote Trump 2020”. So I lost it on my mom. I went off. She was gonna take my children to this persons house without me for a weekend while lying about their political party views. I have a feeling she was going to let the politics come up around my children, in a sort of, brainwashing type of manner.
Now it’s five days before Christmas and I’ve blocked my parents phone numbers and have no desire to spend any part of Christmas with them. Except gifts have been bought. And we have a family gift exchange with my grandmother, who is Queen of the Narcissistic Lineage I’ve got flowing through me. I know I will be going no contact with all of them but I don’t know whether or not to wait until after the holidays. At this point, I’m considering dropping the kids off for an hour and not going with my husband. That’ll be the last time they see the kids.
Some other examples of wild shit my mom has done:
Every time she wants to “talk” aka bag on me for my BPD or depression, she literally locks me in a room and won’t let me leave. This happened once before my husband I got married when we lived with them. He sat in our basement den while they locked me a room above him to yell at me. They did this same thing after I came home from college after being raped. They locked me in my own bedroom to question me about the assault to determine if I was lying or just “had it out for men”. Yeah, that’s a direct quote. I won’t ever forget it.
She gave my infant daughter formula once without my permission despite my exclusively breastfeeding her. She waited a few months to tell me but then brushed it off because it “was only once and there was no pumped breast milk left”.
She has always maintained that my daughter should just skip or have short naps if she wants to visit with her, take her somewhere, etc. She told me straight up that my daughter would be fine with no nap for the holidays. I’m the mom. I set the nap times and my daughter, just like me, thrives off of a lot of sleep. When she is overtired, she cried and wants to breastfeed. And if I do that in front of everyone, once again, they will throw a fit because she’s “too old to be breastfeeding” and I “should do that in a private area away from” them.
My brother is 20 with social anxiety and anger issues. He has hit my mom as a child. He has beat me up. He’s punched holes in walls in our house. And my mom never stuck with therapy for him so now he has no GED (he dropped out as a freshman in HS) and lives in their basement, still taking money from them to purchase video games and computer monitors. He’s done some work mining Bitcoin lately though so I’m not too mad about that lol. He doesn’t take his medications regularly.
My sister is in middle school with a slew of mental illnesses; she was thought to have Down’s syndrome at birth but ended up testing negative. She did struggle in elementary school so she retook a year and is now on track for her age. She has social anxiety, sensory processing disorder, anxiety, and OCD. She also does not go to therapy or take medications.
When I was diagnosed with PCOS, she told me it was a bullshit diagnosis and only when I had a THIRD diagnosis from a reproductive endocrinologist did she allow me to seek treatment. I was infertile due to this. I had my daughter by straight luck and will never be able to have kids again... not that I want them anyways.
There’s so many more examples but they’re extremely long stories with various details. The most important one is just wild and includes her threatening to file for grandparent’s rights to visit my children. I should’ve never allowed contact again after that. I’m only posting here because I’m lost at what to do in this situation. She has an entire family of 10+ adults to defend her. She will tell me that I’m just like my biological father (they divorced when I was in elementary school due to his addiction, he shows signs of BPD like me so it may be both genetic and environmental for me) and that I’m a narcissistic crazy bitch who needs help. My husband and I agree, though, that she only demonizes me like this when I’m in treatment (or when I’m defending myself) and she can’t as easily manipulate me. I’ve been in treatment for four months now. My husband only recently started reading this Reddit with me and understanding aspects of her (and my childhood as a whole basically) that are dangerous and creepy. Our biggest concern is my siblings that live with her. She is not helping them and they will end up like me if they don’t get help now. My therapists have all made that clear; the earlier the intervention the better. I would probably have been better off if my mom had gotten me consistent help back in high school when I originally sought out therapy. Instead, I spent five years in and out of treatment taking two steps forward just to take four steps back every few months. Now I have a daughter who triggers me daily and I am doing my very hardest to be a better mom for her but I cannot do that with my own Nmother behind me looking over my shoulder pushing me down every chance she gets.
So what do I do for the holidays? And how do I finally cut off contact with family members who I’ve got loans through?! My grandma just bought me a vehicle in cash after I was in a hit and run so I owe her money every month for that until it’s paid off. My husband and I just moved 45 mins from my Nmom and 1 hr and 15 from NGrandma who I will now call NLineage Queen. We are far enough away to feel safe and sane but cutting off contact is really tough, especially when there’s two younger siblings involved.
TLDR; cutting off contact with nMom before holidays or waiting until after
